Kate Amrine enjoys teaching all ages and experience levels, in addition to performing with a variety of groups as a professional trumpet player in New York City. Ms. Amrine has been an Adjunct Instructor at New York University for seven years, where she teaches private trumpet lessons for undergraduates. She also maintains her own private studio, where several of her students have been recognized with honors and awards. Some of Ms. Amrine’s students are currently first chair in school ensembles, have been nominated for Honors Band, and have auditioned for and been accepted to ensembles such as the Lincoln Center Middle School Jazz Academy, Jazz Standard Youth Orchestra, and the NYC All City Latin Ensemble. Outside of teaching private lessons, Ms. Amrine has spent several semesters coaching a high school trumpet ensemble, mixed winds chamber ensemble, and leading a jazz ensemble. As a performer, recent performances include premiering new pieces for trumpet and clarinet with Spark Duo, playing trumpet and piccolo trumpet in the Off-Broadway show Whisper House, and performing a CD release show of music from her second album: This is My Letter to the World

“I love teaching all ages and experience levels and helping students become the best musician they can be in any style of music or musical setting. One of the most important goals for me is establishing a strong set of fundamentals for each student in both the technical aspects of playing and listening. Similarly, I want to help my students learn how to take a piece of music and tell a story or paint a picture for the audience and for themselves. I know that in lessons I am teaching my students about many elements beyond music that they will carry with them in any area including how to be self critical yet productive, listening skills, developing creativity, and the power of hard work.”
